Space on Hold

The public page and a custom domain

Your public page lives at the account address you picked on spaceonhold.com. It lists your spaces, plus a package if you have one. Each space also has its own booking page. In settings, under Public page, you can set the headline, intro, look, photo placement, a website, an Instagram address, extra links, a logo, photos and questions.

Custom domain

You can also put your booking page on a hostname you already own. Go to Custom domain in settings, where the box shows bookings.example.com as a placeholder. Saving a domain doesn't turn it on. The records you need appear after you save. To turn the custom domain off, clear the box and save.

A hostname you already own

An invalid name gets "Enter a domain name, such as book.example.com." Entering spaceonhold.com, www.spaceonhold.com or any subdomain of spaceonhold.com gets "Use a domain you own. This space already has its Space on Hold address." A hostname another account already saved gets "That domain is already in use."

Until the domain is live, the page tells you it isn't live yet, to add the records where you bought the domain, and that the domain stays off until the TXT record matches. You need two records:

  • A CNAME from your hostname to your address (your slug plus .spaceonhold.com)
  • A TXT record named _spaceonhold. plus your hostname, with the value shown after you save. That value isn't listed on this page.

Once the TXT record matches, the domain is marked live. More TXT records may show up after that for the certificate request, and those also go where you bought the domain. If a later check can't look up the record, the last result stands. If the TXT record stops matching, the domain turns off again.
