When card payments are off
The card button on a guest booking stays off, and the page says "Card payments are off. The owner can record the deposit," when the account is a test host, Stripe isn't connected, or card payments aren't set up on this deploy.
In the desk, the banner says "Card payments are off. Guests can't pay a deposit by card until this account is connected. You can still record a deposit by hand."
The setup step stays open until Stripe reports that payouts are on. It reads "Payouts have to be on before a guest can pay a deposit by card." Connecting an account isn't the same as having payouts on. The card button only uses the three checks above, not the payouts setting.
If the guest hasn't checked the box, the page says "Check the box to agree to the Space on Hold guest terms."
If Stripe doesn't return a card page, the hold can't be extended, or the session can't be saved, the page says "The card page did not open." If a card page is already opening, it says "The card page is opening. Try again in a moment."
A damage hold, when a space asks for one, is separate from the deposit. If card pay is off, the visit page says "Card pay isn't on for this space yet, so the hold can't be placed." Card pay for the damage hold is off for a test host, when no account is connected, when cards aren't set up, or while the plan is view-only.
While the plan is past due or canceled, or the trial has ended with no open subscription, new bookings get "This space is not taking new bookings."
Space on Hold doesn't add its own minimum card charge, but Stripe's minimums still apply. A card refund has to be at least 1 cent and can't be more than what's left to refund on that charge.
When a guest's card is charged, the end of the statement line shows the site name, using only letters and numbers, cut to 10 characters. If the name has no usable letters, the address slug is used the same way. If neither one has usable letters, nothing is added.
Taking a card in person
Taking a card in person
On a booking, Take a payment opens a card form hosted by Stripe, on the owner's connected account. The page says “Enter their card, or hand them your phone.” and “The card form is hosted by Stripe.” The amount starts at the deposit still owed, or at the balance still owed once the deposit is paid. The page shows it as “Still owed:” plus the dollar amount. You can enter a lower amount, but not a higher one. If you try, the page says “That's more than what's still owed.” A charge for the full amount owed is recorded as the deposit, or as the balance once the deposit is in, the same way as a guest's card payment. A smaller charge is recorded on the booking as a partial payment toward that deposit or balance. If a card doesn't go through, nothing is recorded. To refund one of these payments, use the refund option already on the booking. On the demo site, the card form doesn't open, and it says “The demo can't take card payments.” Only charge a card with the cardholder's permission, and don't write down or keep card numbers. Space on Hold doesn't store them. Keyed-in card payments can cost more in Stripe fees and carry more chargeback risk than guest online payments. Chargebacks and any dispute fees come out of your Stripe account, the same as any other card payment.
